Singer Mary Simone’s unique blend of jazz, pop and R&B points to her diverse upbringing in The Bahamas, Canada and the UK. Born and raised in The Bahamas, Mary Simone grew up surrounded by the rhythms of her vibrant culture. Her English father, an advocate for musicians in The Bahamas, brought Mary Simone  to rehearsals for local band High Voltage, who went on to form Bahamen, (“Who Let The Dogs Out”). He also introduced her to Nina Simone (her namesake), Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James.

As a child, Mary Simone loved singing and creating melodies, a talent she showcased in school choirs and variety shows. During her years in Canada, she was moved by the music of Sarah MacLachlan.

Recently reconnecting with her love of singing, Mary Simone’s deep passion for music is her escape, mood elevator, conduit for shifting energy, and a way of dealing with grief and enhancing joyful moments.  What began as a personal release, is blossoming into a deep passion, inspiring her to develop her vocal talent and share her voice.

With Great Escape, Mary Simone introduces herself as a compelling new voice in music, inviting listeners to experience familiar songs in a whole new way. This debut release is a testament to her passion, talent and the limitless possibilities of artistic expression.

Drawing from influences in jazz, pop and R&B, Mary Simone is on a musical journey through the songs that resonate deeply; from gentle ballads to vibrant grooves, the album weaves together a tapestry of emotion, nostalgia and reinvention within the deeply poignant narrative of heartbreak, disappointment and betrayal as well as bracing for “the storm before the calm”. It’s more than a tribute – it’s a testament to music’s power to inspire and connect. And for Mary Simone, it’s an escape.
