The Hokum Syndicate is a band known for playing a distinctive blend of early American music styles, drawing heavily from influences like ragtime, blues, vaudeville and jazz traditions. Their sound harkens back to the lively and diverse music scene of early 20th-century New Orleans and the Minstrel Shows of the late 19th to early 20th centuries. What sets The Hokum Syndicate apart is their unique interpretation of these old musical styles, combined with original compositions that pay homage to the roots of Americana and early jazz.

The band gained attention for its captivating live performances, which combine music with storytelling and humor, offering a rich, engaging show that connects with both the historical roots and modern sensibilities of their audience. Founded by Big Bo, a key figure in the band, The Hokum Syndicate was formed during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Bo wrote a large number of new songs, inspired by pre-Blues Vaudeville traditions. These songs often feature witty, playful lyrics, with themes that reflect both joy and melancholy.

The band includes skilled musicians who specialize in early Americana and roots music. They are working on new recordings, with a demo expected in early 2024 and a full album later in the year.

"This little record is all about rambling, drifting and moving on down the line — from dusty roads to smoky nights, from heartbreak to wide open skies. It speaks of packing up, starting over, and humming a tune while roaming the lands, as the restless world rushes by.

Much of it reflects my own journey. After more than fifty years in the hustle and noise of the city, I finally settled in a quiet village in the countryside, where the air is softer and time moves a little slower. I never knew how much peace it would bring me — but it did.

‘Keep On Walking’ carries those feelings. It tells of leaving, losing and longing, but also of rediscovering the beauty in small things: a garden in bloom, a graceful dance, the light of day — and of course, music.

I had the great pleasure of making this record with some truly outstanding musicians — fine people and brilliant players. I am proud of this band, and proud of the songs we made together.

I hope you, dear listener, will enjoy this record as much as we enjoyed making it.
