Lyrics from the East Coast, music from the West (by way of Chicago), and a studio in Nashville, TN. That’s how Gus Reeves & The Petty Thieves came to be, and it helps explain the cross section of musical styles on their debut album, “Americana Pop”.
Part rhythm & blues, part folk, part country, part….yacht rock?!? It’s quite an introduction.
“Americana Pop” is a refreshing throwback to a time when albums were meant to be listened to as a whole. Here, the band presents 8 tracks designed to take the listener on a very personal journey.
The band is a cross-country venture, bringing together West Coast singer-songwriter Gus Reeves, East Coast lyricist Neil Sullivan and Nashville producer Tony Morra.
Reeves and Sullivan linked up in 2021 to begin sketching the initial ideas for what would become “Americana Pop”. Morra was the final piece of the puzzle…bringing established session musicians (including himself on drums!) into his Nashville studio and blending all the distinct elements into a cohesive sound.
The end result is a debut album that celebrates the Americana genre, which is to say there’s a little something for everyone.
